Electrical project managers take overall responsibility for the planning, management, co-ordination and financial control of electrical aspects of a construction project.
They ensure that the client's requirements are met, the project is completed on time and within budget - depending on the project, responsibilities can cover all aspects from the design stage through to completion. The work of electrical project management jobs involves:
- Organising the various professional people on projects
- Making sure that all the aims and quality standards are met
- Using the latest IT applications to keep track of people and progress
- Accounting, costing and billing
Electrical work in project management jobs
Project managers have good organisational and communication skills. Electrical work includes power (HV & LV), lighting, CCTV, security, data, IT, Building Management Systems, UPSs and electrical controls.
You can either have come from a trades background and have worked up through supervisory and site management roles or have completed a technical HNC / degree in Electrical / Building Services, or more general degree in Project Management / Business Studies / Construction Management.
