The Met’s HR Directorate looks after the interests of 48,626 employees and is itself 932 individuals strong.

“It means a lot to us as we have gone out to the heart of the community and not just waited for people to come to us. We are interacting with the community in more ways than one.

"Now we want to focus more and more on the areas where we are getting a good response. There is so much more we can do," said Sangita Katyal of the Met Police.

Some of the areas addressed included:

  • Using innovative recruitment methods in its recruitment strategy
  • Targeting under-represented parts of the community with recruitment bus
  • Visited over 20 diverse communities, cultural and religious events

Judge Jane Burt commended the bus initiative, “The bus takes recruitment into the heart of the community, raising the profile of police vacancies and challenging perceptions by offering an informal way to engage with potential recruits”.
