Welcome to Oldknow Junior School

Welcome and thank you for considering Oldknow Junior School for your teaching post. We look forward to working with you to provide a high quality education for children.

Our focus in the school is to provide a caring environment and a wide range of educational opportunities for all children to help them grow into independent, responsible people. Our school priorities centre around the requirements of the National Curriculum. Wherever possible, programme of work draw upon and value the child’s own contribution and experience in a relevant and meaningful way. It is also important to us that each child has the opportunity to develop a positive awareness of life in a multi-cultural society.

Rules are kept to minimum, but those that do exist are developed in partnership with the children and are intended to support and make for a harmonious, safe and peaceful school where, above all, self-discipline and concern for others are seen as important factors in social development.

The school is committed to implementing innovations and making it work in practice. Our classrooms are well resourced and we have worked hard to create learning environments that are easily accessed by children to help further the learning process. Our IT provision throughout the school is excellent.

Our priorities and targets are clearly identified and shared through School Improvement Planning processes and continuous self-evaluation. We have given priority to developing our curriculum planning in particular cross-curricular activities as we work towards addressing the E.C.M agenda. It is exciting now that the overriding concern of all our staff is the effective learning of the children. There is clear direction and purpose from the Leadership Team, clear evidence of team-work on the part of all the staff and considerable evidence of pupil achievement. There is a passionate interest amongst staff in how to improve learning in respect of the needs, problems and abilities of individual children and improve the quality of teaching and delivery of work. The school continues to improve term by term and each term the pace of progress accelerates and embeds into the school system. There are consistent features emerging which characterise the life of the school:

  • Clear and effective leadership by the leadership team;
  • Committed staff working together as a team;
  • Clarity of shared purpose;
  • Good communication within the year groups;
  • Positive atmosphere in the school, evident in the behaviour of both children and adults;
  • Effective use of data to promote learning;
  • Explicit annual monitoring strategies to impact on standards.
  • Improved standards in teaching.

All of this is helping us to achieve a learning-focused culture, become a self-evaluative school, continually promoting a positive environment and effective monitoring systems.

In our school there is a unity of purpose and unflagging commitment by school staff to add significant value to the standards of the children’s achievement. We are a school which sees itself as always working towards quality and successfully addressing any issues that may arise. The school is united by a belief that all children can succeed and that learning and teaching must be based on mutual respect and the raising of self esteem. The school has the capacity to improve and to sustain improvement year on year! We have a positive climate well established providing fertile ground for new initiatives to develop and current strategies to flourish and embed firmly into the life of the school.

I am honoured and privilege to be able to lead and develop further the education of the children at Oldknow Junior School.  This is a school where there is high and consistent expectations for each child and the school is going from strength to strength.
